NEMP TESTS

The MIL-STD-461, respectively IEC 61000-4-25 and AECTP 500, is applicable to equipment or subsystems located outside a shielded facility. The RS105 test method describes a transient electromagnetic pulse of up to 50 kV/m (-0dB, +6dB), double exponential waveform with a rise time in the nanosecond range, that is applied to the EUT at least 5 times. The EUT should not exhibit any signs of performance degradation.
The HV generator delivers the high voltage pulse to a radiating line mounted on an electrical ground plane. The electromagnetic field pulse is generated between the radiating line and the ground plane (TEM propagation). A distributed line termination load inserted in the second part of the antenna absorbs the pulse and limits reflections. Montena pulse control and data acquisition software monitors the HV generator and triggers the pulses. Different types of sensors are used to monitor the electric and magnetic fields as well as the generator output pulse voltage and shape.
An oscilloscope collects the measurements from the field and voltage sensors through coaxial cables and fibre optic links for display and possible storage in the PC. In order to ensure correct measurement, the oscilloscope and the computer must be placed in a shielded environment, protecting them from the strong electromagnetic field pulses.
Other accessories as LISNs or TPDs can be used but are not shown in the adjacent drawing.
