COLD PLASMA FOR AIR PURIFICATION

Air purification using pulsed cold plasma is a promising technique that utilizes the antimicrobial and oxidizing properties of plasma to clean and sanitize the air we breathe.

Pulsed cold plasma air purifiers work by creating a high-energy plasma discharge in the presence of air. The pulsed power generates reactive species, such as ozone, hydrogen peroxide, and free radicals, which effectively neutralize and eliminate airborne pollutants, including bacteria, viruses, mold spores, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Additionally, the electric field associated with the plasma discharge can induce charges on particulate matter, causing them to agglomerate and settle, leading to cleaner air.

One of the advantages of using pulsed cold plasma for air purification is that it can operate at room temperature, unlike traditional hot plasma methods. This makes it a safer and more energy-efficient option for air purification systems.

The pulsed corona discharge is an efficient means to generate cold plasma for air purification. It is particularly well-suited for air purification because it can generate high concentrations of reactive species, such as ozone and free radicals, without significantly increasing the temperature of the surrounding air.

Typically, the voltage range shall be in the range of tens of kV and the pulse duration in the range of tens to a few hundreds of nanoseconds, stopping the ionisation process before the current starts to circulate between the electrodes of the discharge plasma element.

Montena designs new technologies based on solid state switching for its new set of fast voltage pulsers, especially well-suited for these applications. Thanks to their modular architecture the generators of Montena can deliver a large range of pulse intensity and duration.
